Our Story

Westward Recovery Works creates practical resources for recovery, reflection, and group work.

Our collection includes faith-integrated resources alongside evidence-informed CBT, REBT, ACT, relapse prevention, and recovery-focused activities, giving counselors, recovery professionals, treatment programs, and individuals tools that can fit a variety of settings and approaches.

But Westward did not start as an online store.

It started because I needed better tools to do my job.

My path into this work has included my involvement with the Texas Tech Center for Students in Addiction Recovery, working as a Recovery Specialist at Fire Sky Recovery, and later working as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor at the Ranch at Dove Tree in Lubbock, Texas.

When I first started working at the Ranch, I noticed something almost immediately.

We had clients coming in who needed Step work, relapse-prevention work, CBT, REBT, ACT, emotional-regulation tools, and all kinds of other recovery material. But a lot of the packets available to us had been copied so many times that they were barely hanging on.

The words were faded.

Pages were crooked.

Some sections were missing.

Some material just did not connect with the people sitting in front of us.

And when I started looking for better resources, I realized how difficult it was to find affordable, practical material that was ready to use in an actual treatment setting.

So I started making my own.

It began with Step One, Step Two, and Step Three worksheets. Then came Fourth Step work.

After that, it kept growing.

I started developing CBT activities, REBT exercises, ACT material, relapse-prevention tools, reflection worksheets, recovery games, group activities, and other resources based on the things we were actually teaching in treatment.

And I tested them where they mattered — in the room with clients.

Some ideas worked.

Some didn't.

Some got polite participation.

And every now and then, something would light up the whole room.

People would start talking.

They would laugh.

They would challenge each other.

They would recognize themselves in the material.

They would take something we had talked about a hundred different ways and suddenly understand it because this time it was presented differently.

Those were the tools I kept.

I revised them, expanded them, turned them into packets, and kept building.

That process eventually became Westward Recovery Works.

Built for the Rooms Where Recovery Happens

These resources are made for the people doing this work every day:

Residential treatment counselors.

PHP and IOP programs.

Recovery specialists and peer-support workers.

Sober-living programs.

Prisons and county jails.

Church and ministry recovery programs.

Group facilitators.

Students entering the addiction-treatment field.

And anybody else trying to help another person build a different life.

I wanted these materials to be affordable, accessible, easy to print, easy to download, and most importantly — useful.

Because a worksheet can look great and still not teach anybody a damn thing.

The goal here is different.

I want the person using one of these resources to be able to walk into a group, put it in front of somebody, and start a real conversation.

Two Paths. Same Mission.

Westward Recovery Works includes two primary types of resources.

Faith-Integrated Resources incorporate recovery, reflection, identity, purpose, faith, spiritual growth, forgiveness, and a relationship with God.

Evidence-Informed Resources draw from approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, relapse prevention, motivational work, and other established recovery concepts.

Not every person needs the same approach.

Not every program operates the same way.

And not every resource on this site is faith-based.

That is intentional.

The goal is to give you practical tools and let you choose what fits the people you serve.

Why Westward?

Recovery is movement.

Sometimes slow.

Sometimes ugly.

Sometimes two steps forward and one step backward.

But the direction matters.

Westward Recovery Works exists to help people understand themselves, challenge old thinking, reconnect with purpose, and practice a different way of living.

These tools were not created just to fill pages.

They were built for the rooms where honest work happens.

Real people. Practical tools. A different way forward.
